Scholarship Information - Updated 07/13/2015
The Northwest Florida Volunteer Firefighter Weekend Council, Inc. was awarded a FEMA SAFER grant in April 2011 for the amount of $586,000 which is to be spread over the next 4 years. In July 2011, the Council amended the SAFER grant to help volunteer fire departments in Florida to recruit and retain volunteer firefighters by awarding PPE (pants, coat, helmet, boots, gloves and hood) to eligible fire departments for their new recruit. In December 2013, the Council once again expanded the opportunities to be awarded PPE once their firefighter submits a copy of their Firefighter Part I Certificate of Completion from the Florida State Fire College.
These opportunities include the following:
The Council is sponsoring a online Firefighter I class at a host Florida fire department. Firefighter I Task Book Second Signature Sign-off and live burn to be completed at our annual event; or
By attending and successfully completing the 2nd signature for the Florida Firefighter I Skills Task Book and Live Fire Evolutions at our annual event, or
By attending and successfully completing the S130/S190 at our annual event, or
Assisting a Florida fire department(s) Firefighter I class with the Florida Firefighter I Task Book Second Signature Sign-off
Also, we will be providing instructors during July and August at no
charge to a host agency for the first signature for the Florida
Firefighter I Task Book.
